Empowering Youth: Botree's Partnership with Glowing Hearts Charity

Updated: Oct 21

At Botree, we believe in the power of education, mental health, and personal growth; it’s integrated into every one of our programs.

Our Level Up Programs are designed to create safe spaces to challenge your thinking and stretch your skill sets. That’s why when Glowing Hearts Charity landed in our inbox seeking to grow the skill sets of their summer student team we jumped at the chance!

These values of education and mental health align perfectly with the mission of Glowing Hearts Charity, an organization dedicated to disrupting the cycle of poverty by providing programs that reduce barriers and support the mental health, growth, and development of school-age children and youth in Simcoe County. This cause is particularly dear to us because philanthropy is at the core of our value system. The Botree team regularly volunteers as part of our business activities and have made this a core team building initiative since our inception.

When Glowing Hearts Charity found us through our connection with the Barrie Chamber of Commerce, they wanted to prepare their summer students with essential skill sets for their roles. At Botree, we strongly believe that upskilling your team is crucial. Every team member needs access to training matched to their role, from summer student to executive leads. Our regular participation in work placement programs has shown us the tremendous value, growth, and innovation that comes from hiring students and training them accordingly.

To support Glowing Hearts Charity, we provided their team with our Level Up Communication Program. This DiSC communication-focused program is designed to optimize organizational and individual communication. Over the course of the program, seven students learned effective ways to build self-awareness, assess their contributions to a team, work more effectively with others, and overcome obstacles.

The experience was incredibly rewarding. The students were highly engaged and took full advantage of the metaverse environment in which the training was conducted. They shared personal commitments to address communication challenges in their lives, and everyone left with a strong understanding of DiSC and how to apply it in various contexts. One student participant remarked:

“I learned a lot and was surprised at how engaging the training was.”

From designing Snapchat messages tailored to each DiSC style to problem-solving how to build relationships with people you have tension with, the activities were diverse and targeted to the needs of their environment. Each student received a DiSC communication profile to assist them in their professional development and self-awareness for future career aspirations, along with a certificate of completion.

For us at Botree, the experience was both refreshing and challenging. It reminded us of the importance of keeping a new generation in the workforce engaged and connected to our content. We were inspired by the emotional intelligence and engagement displayed by the students, which highlighted their commitment to their growth and the charity's mission.

We are deeply grateful to Glowing Hearts Charity for the opportunity to collaborate. A special thank you goes to Sarah Fleming, Managing Director and Board Chair of the charity, for reaching out and coordinating the training. When asked about the program’s success, Sarah said,

"We are so thankful for how eagerly Botree Inc. worked with us to provide our summer students with incredibly rich learning opportunities. We are always looking for ways to help our youth grow their skills and are so grateful for Botree's generous support!"

We encourage other companies to engage in similar charitable activities. If you want to support Glowing Hearts Charity, visit their website and consider organizing a fundraiser or event to help support their initiatives. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of young people and our communities.
